Last night was a great night but I wont use the H word

350 years after the first slaves arrived in this country
143 years after the Emancipation Proclamation
53 years after Brown vs. Board of Education
45 years after MLKs "I have a Dream" Speech AND
44 years after the passage of the Civil Rights Act
......This country finally has a black man as the nominee for President of the United States of a major political party......
Not only has a barrier been crossed in this country...it also represents that for the first time ever a black man has been nominated for the highest office in ANY majority white country (Peru had Fujimori who was of Japanese origin).
All our European detractors (umm like France) who regularly lecture us on our politically incorrect behavior and our supposed racial boorishness need to take notice of this event. None of their countries have come even close.
It is a proud day for this country. After the darkness of the last 8 years and the shame and ridicule that Bush has brought us we are at the threshold of a new era.
To paraphrase Jawharlal Nehru's Freedom at Midnight speech to mark this event...
"A moment comes which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, then an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finally finds utterance"
There I lied....I used the H word....
Peace
